Koji’s birthday cheesecake. 15 years old.

May 23, 2023, Tuesday

Dear Koji,

You are15 years old already.

I still remember the day when you were born. I was in graduate school, and I was supposed to go to a conference, but I opted to stay, cause your mommy was ready to pop anytime soon.

The day before that, we went to take the car to a mechanic and mommy was still driving. I watched the UEFA Champions league that year on TV while waiting for mommy to be brought to the hospital.

I know, I love to watch soccer, and I thought you will play soccer too (you did but you fell in love with basketball more).

Anyways, because you are 15 years old, I gathered 15 pieces of advice to live by:

1. You don’t know what you don’t know (listen to your parents and hire a coach).

2. Stay humble and always be yourself

3. There will be losing and winning seasons in life, so buckle up..

4. Eat, Love, pray (…and if you pray for rain, bring an umbrella)

5. Take a shot…. coz you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take (Wayne Gretzky).

6. Sleep (teenagers sleep late but make sure you shoot for 8 hours).

7. The harder you work, the luckier you become (M Jordan).

9. Failure is part of success (failing sucks, but you need it).

10. Embrace the suck.

11. Rejection is God’s protection.

12. Believe.

13. Take the long way, it’s faster.

14. Always be grateful. (Read this again, internalize it).

15. Slow is fast.

Bonus: The best is yet to come.

Love,

Mommy and Daddy
