Benefits of Gratitude Journal

Thanksgiving…

I can’t believe it’s here, or . I mean seriously, where did this year go?

When I first came to the US, I never knew what to expect for Thanksgiving. I just ate the Turkey leg. I jokingly said every thanksgiving as my leg day.

But honestly, it should be the day of gratitude.

And to tell you honestly, after my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, and part of her program was to write a gratitude journal, I’ve been doing it too…

Every morning, once I stood up and my feet is inside that slippers, I thank the universe for the the day and the day ahead. This is not positive thinking BS. It is backed by science.

You can’t have fear and gratitude feeling at the same time. The system doesn’t work that way. It’s either you feel stressed out or fearful, or being thankful. It depends on what you choose, it will occupy your mind.

I remember one time, my 10-year old kid was reading a tweet from his favorite basketball player, it says

“I’m inside the other team’s real estate..”

Not knowing what it meant, I explained to him that this is just a form of trash talking. If it affects you, then the other player’s trash talk penetrated your brain and you can’t play well. The other team’s trash talk occupied his real estate.

“What’s a real estate?” my son asked.

It’s properties like your house or your land..

I want to end this with a story…

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil — he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good — he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you — and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Feed gratitude.

Not fear or stress.

Gratitude journal, try practicing it!

As you enjoy this day with your friends and family, I want you to look back and be thankful of the blessings…
