Graduation message that I heard before: Lessons on learning, and some more.

St Patrick’s 2022 Graduates

Dear Koji,

Yesterday was your 8th grade graduation day.

But let me backtrack a little. In 2017, I attended a Baccalaureate mass where 8th graders at that time graduated. At that time, I saw the graduates throwing their caps in the air (just like your picture above).

One of the parents said, it will come fast. She was referring to you. She was saying your graduation will come soon too. You were just in 4th grade at the time.

She wasn’t wrong. The day has come. Your graduation day.

Anyway, as I was listening to the graduation talks, there were a lot of lessons your graduation speaker talked about. The principal was your speaker and talked about “you missed the shots you don’t take” and some other things.

But what resonated so much to me was what the priest said while offering a mass for the newly graduates.

Remember when you got into a competitive basketball travel team?

I remember you said that the drills were so hard and everything you were learning something new.

That’s what coaches does, instruct you. Just like your teachers in your school, your coach saw some skills that you need to develop as a player.

Which brings me to the point of the priest, when he said:

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Every time I hear those words, I always say in the end, “that’s why you hire a coach”. We pay your basketball coach, coach Erick. Because you don’t know what you don’t know yet.

Learn from them, and you will grow. Put your head down, work out, be a sponge in learning. Don’t tell yourself, “I don’t need a coach, I know that already.” Big mistake. That’s your ego talking.

Listen and learn. Be humble enough to learn.

Happy Graduation.

Love,

Mommy and Daddy
