I’m losing my job, it’s scary, but I need to pivot.

In less than a month, I will be out of work. I been applying for job, but nothing had pan out yet.

How did this happen?

I’m a scientist, but when our laboratory is going to close because of funding, soI won’t be able to pipet solutions, for now.

It happened to me before.

2013, when a start-up company I was in went belly up. The company was burning more money than planned. When the burn rate, especially for pharmaceutical ventures, faster than expected, backers or venture capitalist will have to stop putting on money.

In 2013, I went to work for an adjunct chemistry professor at a local community college.

Finance-wise, it wasn’t enough to cover everything. One of my colleagues told me that the bagger in a nearby grocery store is paid more than us. If you look at it, he was right.

If you count my hours working from preparing my lectures, checking attendance, delivering the lectures, answering emails, and then checking the papers, my rate was below minimum wage.

So, I looked for jobs back in the laboratory again.

Then 2023, it happened again.

Today however, I was a little bit prepared. I told myself this is only a little bump on the road (or a big bump), but always reminded myself that this will not last forever.

If you haven’t read my piece about red light, green light, check it out. But here’s the thing, I know I will find the work that’s best suited for me. I always tell myself; I got comfy in my job that God shook me from my stupor.

So how do I pivot?

In 2017, I went to register my small business. I was doing online sales. Last year, my revenue was over $100k in affiliate sales.

So today, while I’m still looking for jobs, I am working really hard on my online business to succeed and leave corporate America for good.

Here’s my strategy:

If I’m going to do a business, helping people will be my priority. I was talking to my wife 2 weeks ago, and I was telling her that people who succeed in business is that because they really want to help people.

“People don’t care about what you know; they care about if you care.” This will be my guiding principle when I am going to to business.

Every person who comes to me that needs help, will be helped, even before the exchange of money takes place.

This will be top of my priority.

So in the next few weeks, I will update you on my venture.
