Lessons from being wet in the rain

Dear Koji,

I am writing this while waiting for you outside the gym. You are still practicing basketball.

You don’t see, but I am wet. Blame it from the Florida rain that usually happens during this time of the year. I just changed my shirt inside the car and in my phone writing this letter to you.

What’s so special with being wet? From the rain?

I was thinking, for some people, it will be a huge inconvenience and could make or break their days. I heard people swearing and being angry because it rained on them or there was rain during their wedding day or..

But I choose not to be angry.

Being wet from the Florida rain is not a huge inconvenient. To me, it’s fun. While I was walking to my car dripping (I did 7k steps, half of that was under the rain), I told myself, for a long time, I haven’t done this, playing under the rain. If my memory serves me right, I probably played soccer under the rain when I was around 13 years old. (You know soccer is rain or shine)

That’s been a long time Koji.

Now this leads me to the lessons I learned in playing under the rain. There are 3 lessons I want you to remember.

  1. Look for the positive in every situation.
  2. It’s the meaning you put on the situation that counts.

It will take me so much time to explain these in detail, so I will write another letter for you in a week or so.

The third one is the most important one, but I did not write it here yet.

Love,

Mommy and Daddy
