Lipitor, The Little Pill That Could
I am that kind of guy who is obsessed with drugs and chemicals (I’m a forensic chemist, what can I do). So, I researched what was the biggest blockbuster drug in the world.
At first, when it came out to be Lipitor, I can’t believe it first. I thought it was Viagra, but it’s not.
So, here we come.
Lipitor.
It’s that one name that somehow manages to sneak into dinner conversations whenever someone brings up cholesterol — and we all have that one health-conscious family member, don’t we?
The little blue pill that’s not that little blue pill (sorry, Viagra, but we’ll come back to you later) made quite the splash in the pharmaceutical world.
It was like the Beatles of statins — everyone was talking about it, and for good reason. Lipitor didn’t just lower cholesterol; it made lowering cholesterol an iconic journey.
But let’s rewind a bit.
Before Lipitor came into the spotlight, cholesterol was that shadowy villain lurking behind butter, eggs, and the occasional triple cheeseburger.
Doctors warned us about the dangers of high cholesterol, but what were we supposed to do? Quit the cheesecake cold turkey?
