My neighbor is 80 year old, but still plays the trumpet, you know why?
When I parked my car in my driveway after work, I noticed that In my neighbor’s lawn has “Happy Birthday” sign.
When I saw his daughter pass by to check their mail, I asked her who’s birthday.
She told me that it was her dad’s birthday . There was a drive by birthday greetings and wishes earlier.
When I saw Gary, later that week, he told me that he’s already 80.
He’s a musician, and taught music theory in a Florida university. What’s fascinating is that he still plays the trumpet everyday.
Every morning, I will hear him play when I get ready to work. Like clockwork, I would hear him play a chord progression. It’s his warm up.
I asked him why? You’re retired and could just rest.
His answer was an eye opener:
I still wanna maintain my competitive edge.
He then expounded by telling me that to maintain his lung capacity in this kind of musical instrument, you have to practice everyday.
It’s the new year, and I know we have resolutions.
I do, and I want to stay on course.
Gary’s words will be my beacon of light, continue doing until the end of 2021.
If an eight years old can practice the trumpet everyday, I should practice my resolutions everyday too.
No excuses.
