Wake up call

Are You Still Dreaming a Bad Dream? Don’t waste your time in this earth doing what you hate, because you only live once.

I have a co-worker that worked in the same building for 20 years.

Sink that in first. 20 years. Two decades of his life.

I got nothing against that. What I’m against is that why stay in a horrible job. The AC is not working properly that in the summer, it’s super hot I have a hard time concentrating doing my work.

To me, if that was 20 years of cycles of very cold winters and very hot summers (I live in Florida), I will leave that place.

Not for this guy.

We become comfortable with our lives that we don’t do anything anymore. Life becomes a rat race. Go to work, then go home with the family and then sleep.

Rinse and then repeat it again.

I remember a Turkish friend describing the situation to me. They have a saying in Turkey that loosely translates to:

“Pig stays in the mud because it’s warm.”

* * * * * ** * ** * ** * ** * *

Let me ask you a question. Did you stay in the mud that long?

Come on, think about it.

I bet you do but you don’t want to admit. Or you don’t know because you are too busy warming in the mud.

Again, think about it Tiger. Later, I’ll tell you what you don’t know why you are staying in that mud for so long.

I did too. Until recently.

Let me tell you a my story:

There’s always a time when I dreaded going to work. I think it’s Monday again. (BTW, most of the heart attack cases happens during Mondays, when people prepares for work).

The thing is I always wanted to be my own boss. I don’t want to report to a superior that you know you are more experience compared to the boss.

Here’s the first problem: People have really poor ability to perceive and understand that you can live the life you wanted.

Let me expound. After the job that I hated, I jump into business. I worked hard to get the business running.

Tons of work. But it was worth it. I have to wake up early in the morning and straight to my computer. I would stay up to 8 PM or midnight sometimes.

What took me so long to be entrepreneur?

Here’s the second problem: Status Quo.

We’ve been always told to work. Work for somebody, collect retirement and obey your boss. I didn’t question that. But my built in biases prevented me from even investigating that I can work without a boss managing my on-line business.

People, even the educational system prepares you to work for somebody else. To be in the rat race. You know what’s the problem with the rat race?

Even if you win the rat race, you are still a rat.

In the very start of this article, I asked you what’s holding you back? What are your excuses? What are your fears?

The sad part is, you have biases that even yourself don’t know exist, and that’s the reason why pig stays in the mud.

Are you comfy in the mud?
