What I learned from this 7 foot 9 inches tall high schooler

Life lessons comes in unexpected ways….

I live in Gaineaville, Florida. I follow the sports scene of the University.

My brother from the Philippines messaged me about this high school kid from Canada who committed to the Florida Gators Basketball program.

I told my brother that he’s tall alright, but he is slow.

“Yeah” he agreed.

“But he has 4 years to play in college to get faster”, he added.

That’s when I realized, why do I have to judge this kid today.

Or, why judge at all?

That’s where the magical shift in my mind happened.

I judge people quickly. I judge their ability right now, on who they are right in the present moment, and not think of their potential.

Stories of not judging a person is ubiquitous. But the judgement of a person’s potential is uncommon.

One of the story I heard that heard that was stuck on me was this teacher being asked about his students.

Most of the teacher, when asked what will be the future grade of a kid who’s grade in math, currently, is failing.
